International trade security has become a strategic factor in recent years. In order to facilitate trade while ensuring security, particularly in all customs-related matters, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status has been created.
The establishment of the Union Customs Code (UCC) introduces a significant number of benefits, procedures, authorisations, etc., which demand compliance with AEO requirements. Therefore, the AEO status has become a strategic factor as a result of the UCC.

WHAT IS THE AUTHORISED ECONOMIC OPERATOR STATUS?
The Authorised Economic Operator status is an internationally recognised quality mark that proves a business’s role in the international supply chain is secure, and that its customs controls and procedures meet the required standards. These operators are positively distinguished, thanks to facilities that allow them to benefit from certain simplified procedures and swifter customs controls.
Having AEO status means your company is a trusted partner in areas of the world with mutual recognition agreements.
General Advantages:
- Facilities that allow AEOs to benefit from simplified customs procedures.
- Fewer physical and documentary controls.
- Priority in controls.
- Possibility to choose inspection sites.
- Reduced-data entry and exit summary declarations.
- Prior notification of physical examination.
- Recognition as a "trusted partner" by the administration.
- International recognition.
National Advantages:
- Guaranteed VAT reduction of up to 50%.
- National centralised clearance.
- Scanned EDI file.
- Priority in binding resolutions, appeals, etc.
- Automatic granting of extensions of value or origin.
There are three types of AEO status:
Authorised Economic Operator - CUSTOMS SIMPLIFICATIONS: This certification is for companies that have customs clearance but do not handle or store customs-related goods.
Authorised Economic Operator - SECURITY AND SAFETY: This certification is for companies that do not have customs clearance, although they do handle or store customs-related goods.
Authorised Economic Operator - FULL: This is a combination of the two aforementioned statuses (AEOC + AEOS). The full status is, of course, for companies that have both customs clearance and also handle or store customs-related goods.
Who can apply for AEO status?
Any natural or legal persons involved in the international logistics chain. We actually recommend that many of our clients apply for this certification, and our Customs Taxation Department is on hand to advise them throughout the process.
